Fly into Muscat, collect a 4x4, and the whole north packs into a six-day loop — one e-visa, no borders, fuel cheaper than water. The interior first: Nizwa's Friday goat auction, the same theatre for centuries; Bahla's mud fort; Misfat's stone houses over the palms; then the rim of Wadi Ghul, Arabia's grand canyon. The crossing back is the driving highlight — the Wadi Bani Awf descent, two thousand metres down through Snake Canyon, the best hour at the wheel between here and the Himalaya. The coast closes it: the Grand Mosque's silence and Mutrah's frankincense souq, dhows still built by hand at Sur, the swim up Wadi Shab, turtles nesting at Ras al Jinz — and a night among the Wahiba dunes with the tyres half-deflated.
